The Rochdale Riverside development has taken another step forward with the opening of its new independent cinema.
The flagship retail and leisure centre was due to open on April 6, but its launch was delayed after the country went into lockdown.
Stores including M&S began opening in June as restrictions were relaxed – and now Reel Cinemas has joined them.
The multiplex boasts six screens, including luxury auditorium The Real Lounge, where film fans can sit back in comfy seats and enjoy table service.
Each auditorium is operating at a reduced capacity for now to comply with social distancing rules, and tickets must be pre-booked.
Customers will need to have their e-tickets or unique booking code with them when they arrive to minimise contact with staff.
Pre-packed drinks and snacks are available to pre-order online, for collection in the cinema foyer before each film. A limited selection will also be available to buy on the day, but only contactless payment methods will be accepted.
Other safety measures in place in the current climate include an extensive cleaning routine, distancing markers and clear signage throughout.
Reel Cinemas joins high street names including Next, JD Sports, Nando’s and a indoor mini-golf centre at the development.
Muhammad Faisal, head of operations at Reel Cinemas, said: “We’re delighted to have the opportunity to bring Reel Cinemas to the people of Rochdale and incredibly excited about the Riverside site.
“It is a terrific location for local transport links and being a part of a shopping and leisure development with restaurants and bars will create an area where local people can enjoy a great night out.”
Classic titles will also be screened in the coming weeks before eagerly-awaited new releases such as Christopher Nolan’s Tenet and Disney’s live-action Mulan are available in August.
