Rochdale

Since 2016, Genr8 has been engaged with the re-invigoration of Rochdale, bringing back much-needed retail, leisure, and hospitality.

A BUDDING
PARTNERSHIP

The special relationship between Genr8 Developments and Kajima was founded in Rochdale. Over a period of 10 years the Partnership formed between the two businesses wrestled with the delivery of this transformational 200,000 sq ft retail and leisure scheme which has successfully repositioned the town in the regional hierarchy.

Various hurdles were overcome with a combination of determination, innovation, and a degree of good humour. Despite the town centre flooding on Boxing Day 2015 and M&S, the anchor tenant, attempting to renege on the Agreement to Lease they had agreed, the scheme was delivered to huge industry and public acclaim, winning Commercial Development of the Year.

AN ONGOING
SUCCESS STORY

The centre which is over 95% let by floor area, has attracted occupiers not previously represented, including Marks and Spencer, Next, H&M and Deichmann, and has ensured others such as River Island, Boots and New Look stayed in the town. In addition to the fantastic retail line-up, the centre boasts a six-screen Reel cinema, Nando’s, Dunkin Donuts and Heavenly Desserts.

Genr8 and Kajima worked in partnership with the Council to deliver the scheme and used an income strip to fund the £80m development with M&G which achieved a financial return for GKRL as well as long-term vibrancy for the town.
